Established in Redmond, Oregon in 1989, Hayden Homes has provided over 25,000 new homes to price-conscious, value-driven homebuyers in underserved, secondary markets throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Hayden Homes and First Story work together to provide solutions to the affordable housing crisis facing communities throughout the Northwest. 

First Story is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to address the affordable housing crisis in the Northwest. First Story uses an integrated approach to affordable housing by giving individuals a hand up to homeownership while encouraging inclusivity.  

First Story collaborates with builder Hayden Homes and in-kind partners to construct or fully refurbish homes in existing Hayden Homes communities. The homes are then sold to individuals and families earning 80 percent of area median income or below through First Story’s innovative loan program, which provides loans at zero-down, zero-percent interest for 30 years. To date, 123 families have accessed affordable homeownership through First Story.  

First Story extends its impact beyond affordable homeownership by supporting community nonprofits through its Giving Grant Program. To date, the organization has awarded more than $2.6 million in grants to charities that provide shelter, food, and advocacy services across the Northwest. Based in Bend, Oregon, First Story proudly serves communities throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
